Life Insurance FAQs

How much life insurance do I need?

A common starting point is to add up what your family would need to cover: years of lost income, the mortgage balance, other debts, childcare and future education costs. Then subtract savings and any coverage you already have. I can walk through the numbers with you.

What’s the difference between term and permanent life insurance?

Term life insurance covers you for a set period, such as 10, 20 or 30 years, and is often used to protect working years and a mortgage. Permanent life insurance, such as whole life, is designed to last your lifetime and can build cash value. Each fits different goals and budgets.

Do I need a medical exam to get life insurance?

Not always. Some policies require an exam, while others use health questions and records instead. What’s available depends on your age, health and the amount of coverage you want.

I have life insurance through work. Is that enough?

It may not be. Employer coverage is often a multiple of salary and usually ends or changes if you leave your job. Many families add an individual policy they own and control.
